This wasn’t a beautiful day. Cold, windy, rainy and probably the best place one could have spent it was home. But this was my holiday! And one of just few days in San Francisco. Plus I had already bought the ticket, so had no choice but to go. And to be honest, the weather added quite a bit to the excursion. It wasn’t meant to be a paradise island anyway.
Just a warning – Alcatraz is basically the main paid attraction in San Francisco so buying the tickets in advance is highly recommended. It includes a return ferry and unlimited stay on the island. You can turn it round within 4 hours, so morning ticket is recommended if you want to have the second half of the day for other activities.
Enjoy !
Time for a cruise. The weather wasnt good. Or maybe it was just adding a bit of spice? We turn around and…
Alcatraz. The inescapable prison.
It wasnt the biggest criminals that were sent to Alcatraz. It was the biggest prison troublemakers that were sent there.
Feels cold. It was cold…
Quite tight and claustrofobic there… unfortunately the Al Capone’s cell is not known. That’s due to the fact that he spent his time in few – inmates were constantly moved around to avoid cooperation between the prisoners.
Some guys managed to drill a hole and escape through it. There were dozens of escape attempts made but NOT A SINGLE ONE officially confirmed successful.
A selfie on Alcatraz Island
The island has got some small, fast and pretty inhabitants! Can you spot it?
Thats the distance between Alcatraz and San Francisco. It does not seem that big but deadly currents in the water caused many people to lose their lives on an attempt to cross it.
Black and White San Francisco from Alcatraz. You can clearly see how linear and steep the streets are. Quite a nice view!
Back to SF.
